MUHAMMAD SHAFEE ABDULLAH, DATO’

Dato’ Muhammad Shafee Abdullah received his tertiary education at the Royal Military College. He received an LLB (Hons) degree from the University of Malaya in 1977 and was a visiting Law Lecturer and Tutor at the University of Malaya from 1978 to 1980. He joined the Attorney-General’s Chambers in 1977 and was a Deputy Public Prosecutor and Federal Counsel in a number of departments of the Attorney-General’s Chambers. In 1984, he went to London to pursue his Post-Graduate studies at The London School of Economics and graduated with an LLM. When he was in London, he was attached to a number of Chambers, such as the Chambers of Blanco White QC, Mary Vitoria QC, Michael Fysh QC and Robin Jacob QC. In 1985 he was called to the Malaysian Bar and he set up his own practice under the name of Shafee & Co. He is a Member of the Human Rights Committee of the Bar Council and is also a Member of SUHAKAM. His main area of practice is in the area of human rights, criminal law, constitutional and administrative law and civil litigation. He has appeared in a number of landmark cases in the Malaysian Courts. He is active in the issues relating to the independence of the Malaysian Judiciary and the Bar.
