(Bernama) -- Deputy Health Minister Datuk Dr Abdul Latif Ahmad said the public must understand that details of an autopsy are confidential until such time they could be made public.
He said that when the time was right, the authorities would announce details of the autopsy in a court of law.
However, the public were under the misconception that the ministry was concealing information involving criminal cases, added Dr Abdul Latif.
He was speaking to reporters after officiating the launch of the ministry's corporate culture campaign here today.
The deputy minister noted that among the cases which had become "issues" with the public were the death of suspected car thief A. Kugan while in police custody and the alleged sodomy case involving PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's personal assistant Saiful Bukhari Azlan.
"There were many other cases before this, which could not be exposed even to the media, as a matter of medical ethics and professionalism.
Dr Abdul Latif said there were attempts by certain quarters to erode public confidence in the authorities for "concealing" information.
He said hundreds of post-mortems involving criminal cases had been conducted, whereby the details had remained confidential unless they were leaked.
"When this happened, action was taklen against those responsible, including referring them to the Ethics Committee of the Malaysian Medical Council under the Medical Profession Act 1971.

SPRM Dapat Anugerah Lembu Dari AMK Malaysia.
HARI ini (25 Feb 2009) satu lagi sejarah negara ini dicatat apabila seekor lembu jantan ikut sama dibawa ke pejabat Suruhanjaya Pencegahan Rasuah Malaysia (SPRM) di Shah Alam, Selangor semasa 20 laporan semula rasuah membabitkan bekas Menteri Besar Selangor, Mohammad Khir Toyo dibuat.
Ahmad Said Terus Mendedahkan Siapa Dirinya Sebenar?

AHMAD SAID SAYS CHILD PORNOGRAPHY IS LIKE A TRAFFIC OFFENCE!
THE SON OF AHMAD PORNO
Ahmad Said, the MACC chief commissioner, has been attacked in blogs and via e-mail over the issue of his son bringing child pornographic material into Australia. His son, a pilot, pleaded guilty and paid a fine for the offence.
Ahmad Said vehemently denies that it was child pornography. He said that the titles of the video clips found in his son’s laptop computer were misleading. “I can bet with you that it’s something that you will find on most men’s handphones,” he said. Ahmad Said also questioned the motive of those linking him to his son’s offence.
“Why are they targeting me? I did nothing over there. It’s like committing a traffic offence here and paying the summons – and then the father gets blamed for it. Is that fair? It’s brainless,” he said. He pointed out that the offence happened in 2007 but has resurfaced now because of his appointment as MACC chief commissioner.
“There were other Malaysian and Singaporean pilots who also paid fines for similar offences, but my son was picked on (by the blogs) because of his link to me,” he said in an interview with a Malaysian local newspaper, and to be precise this newspaper has followed the articles of the Mighty Pen for quite some time now.
Ahmad Said, however, sympathises with his son and in-laws, who have been dragged into the picture unnecessarily. He also dismisses the claims that he interfered and asked Malaysia Airlines for help.“There was no interference. People called me up and asked me if I wanted help. I said ‘Nothing doing’. “I said let him face it, although I got him a lawyer,” he said.

Police report lodged against Anwar
The Gombak Action Front, a non-government organisation in Gombak, today lodged a police report against Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) advisor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, alleging that he is a threat to national security and country’s stability.
Its secretary-general Mohd Mustafa Latiff lodged the report at Batu 6 Police Station in Gombak at 10.35am.
The front represents several bodies including the Gombak District Youth Council, Rukun Tetangga Gombak Setia, and the Persatuan Silatcekak Malaysia (Gombak branch).
Speaking to reporters after lodging the report, Mustafa said the report was to urge the police to investigate Anwar under the Sedition Act and Internal Security Act (ISA) for his statements.

'Offered millions' to jump ship
Petaling Jaya - The offers to jump ship came over the phone, accompanied by promises of millions of dollars and Cabinet posts.
Some of the callers were well-known local businessmen, some anonymous. Their goal: to win faithfuls from the ruling coalition Barisan Nasional (BN) over to the opposition Pakatan Rakyat.
For several BN state assemblymen and MPs, they were tempting offers indeed.
Some state assemblymen said they were offered several million ringgit to switch political allegiance, while the rate offered to MPs was much higher. Some phone calls, said BN members, would lead to meetings, sometimes with opposition leaders.
Such tactics were revealed by the chairman of the Barisan Backbenchers Club, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, local media reported yesterday. Two MPs, he said, told him they got the phone calls from a businessman and a lawyer two weeks ago.
'I know who the businessman and the lawyer are but I cannot reveal the names as well as the amount they offered,' he told The Star daily.
The reports emerged as opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim continues to claim that he has won over enough BN MPs to form the next government. Datuk Seri Anwar now needs 29 BN MPs to defect.
But so far, it appears the BN MPs have turned down the offers.
'We have signed petitions and pledged our loyalty to BN,' said Kota Belud MP Rahman Dahlan, who had also received offers to defect.
'But he (Anwar) will go on claiming that our names including mine are on the list...at the end of the day, when it doesn't happen, he will claim that we changed our minds.'
Some of the callers, MPs said, were well-known. One was reportedly a former politician-turned-businessman who was convicted of a white-collar crime in the late 1990s while another was known for his links to artistes, royalty and investors.
The constant talk of defections has angered backbenchers, many of whom said the rumours marred their reputation.
Mr Tiong's words yesterday drew a sharp reply from opposition Parti Keadilan Rakyat information chief Tian Chua, who demanded proof of the allegations.
'Pakatan has a firm principle and there is no way we will offer any MP money to cross over,' The Star quoted him as saying.

Group lodges police report against Anwar
A fresh legal poser for Anwar Ibrahim emerged when a Penang group calling itself ‘Concern Citizens’ lodged a police report against the opposition leader for creating “instability, disharmony and disorder” over his Sept 16 plan to seize power.
In the police report lodged at 3pm at the Jalan Patani police station in Georgetown today, the de facto PKR leader was alleged to have incited public hatred against the duly-elected Barisan Nasional federal government.
Group spokesperson Wan Abidin Zain claimed that Anwar’s relentless pursuit to take Putrajaya from BN’s grasp was “undemocratic, immoral and irresponsible”.
The group, comprising about 15 people, rapped Anwar of being selfish and inconsiderate by embarking to grab power last Tuesday, causing Malaysians to press the panic button fearing that the country was about to descent into unrest and uncertainty.
The group claimed that some parents did not even send their children to school and many went on a buying spree to stock up essential household goods.
“Anwar creating a near chaotic situation and panic among Malaysians. He posed a threat against the country’s economy and shook the confidence of foreign investors.
“He triggered a political crisis and stalemate on Sept 16,” said Wan Abidin, calling on the police to investigate Anwar for sedition and causing public disorder.
We're non-partisan
During the press conference by Wan Abidin, who claimed to be non-partisan, several
others who were with him shied away from cameras to avoid being identified.
It is not clear whether they are linked to the ruling BN coalition.
On Wednesday, Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said Anwar was a threat to the country’s economy and security, but denied he would use the draconian Internal Security Act against his political opponent.
However, Abdullah’s statement and Wan Abidin’s police report today have raised concern among Pakatan Rakyat leaders and civil rights activists of a ‘bigger ISA operation’ to clamp down on political dissidents.
